Keeping the iPad on

You know what the app does to stay on all day, and set when rest and photos appear.

3 minUpdated October 20, 2026

instnt hub is made for an iPad that stays on all day. While the app is open, the screen does not turn off and the iPad does not lock. That is needed because otherwise the app loses its connection to Home Assistant and misses things turning on, like the PS5 or the doorbell.

Because the screen stays on, keep the iPad on its charger.

Steps

  1. Swipe up from the bottom edge and tap the gear at the bottom left.
  2. Tap Rest in the sidebar.
  3. Under When, choose after how many minutes without a touch rest begins. Never turns it off.
  4. Under Photos During the Day, choose at Album which photos you see during the day, or tap No photos, rest only.
  5. Under Evening, you can turn on Low-Power Evening Mode. After a minute without a touch the brightness then goes down and animations and photo changes pause, until night begins. One touch brings it back.
  6. Under Rest at Night, set the hours with From and Until.
  7. Under Weather with Clock, choose a weather source, or None.

Check

  • In Settings › Rest, When shows "Na … minuten" (After … minutes).
  • Don't touch the iPad for that long: during the day the photo face appears, at night the black screen with the clock.

Not working?

Rest doesn't start

Rest doesn't start while a companion is on (for example while the PS5 is on), while the timer or companion face is showing, or while music is playing on the music face. Nor while the gallery or Settings are open.

Nothing happens during the day

During the day the iPad jumps to the photo face. If that face isn't in your row, it stays where it is. Add the photo face back through the gallery; see Faces and widgets.

Rest doesn't work on iPhone

That's right: rest and photos only appear on the iPad.
