Connect HomeKit

You put the devices and scenes from Apple's Home app on instnt hub.

3 minUpdated October 19, 2026

With HomeKit you don't need Home Assistant. The devices show up in the widget gallery, just like devices from Home Assistant.

What works

  • Lights, switches and outlets
  • Fans
  • Locks
  • Blinds and garage doors
  • Thermostats
  • Sensors: temperature, humidity, contact and motion
  • Scenes

Cameras from HomeKit don't work yet.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings › Connections: swipe up from the bottom edge, the gear at the bottom left, Connections. The first time you open the app, the same list is on the welcome screen.
  2. Tap Connect HomeKit.
  3. iPadOS asks for access to your home data. Allow it.
  4. Add a widget to the home or modular face and choose a kind, for example Lights; see Faces and widgets.

Check

  • HomeKit shows a green dot and the number of devices, for example "12 apparaten" (12 devices).
  • The widget gallery lists your kinds of devices, such as Lights or Locks.

Not working?

"No access. Allow it in Settings › Privacy › HomeKit."

You denied access. Tap Allow Access; the Settings app opens. Turn on access for instnt hub.

"No home in the Home app"

There is no home in the Home app on this iPad. Create one, or get invited to an existing home.

Everything shows up twice

See the warning above: turn HomeKit off with Turn Off next to HomeKit.

A camera from HomeKit is missing

Cameras from HomeKit aren't built yet. Cameras through Home Assistant do work; see Doorbell and cameras.
